Hi, Our current Doors database backup is taking too much time to complete. Process of Backup: 1- Stops Doors service 2- Take the snapshot of Doors Database in X-drive 3- Start Doors service 4- Copy the snapshot from X drive to F-Drive Doors database size is 20GB but to copy the snapshot from Xdrive to F drive it takes more than 24 hours. So is there any other way to make the database backup faster. Please provide your suggestions. Thanks in Advance. AnuragR - Fri Nov 21 07:27:25 EST 2014 |
Re: Doors Database Backup This sounds like the server is running on Windows? Why copy from X to F? |
Re: Doors Database Backup - stop DOORS - make ZFS snapshot - start DOORS Some seconds for 78G (~3026000 Files) Sorry for this answer, but you asked for suggestions. We run the DOORS server under Solaris with ZFS. |
Re: Doors Database Backup Maybe I've misread something but if its taking 24 hours to copy the snapshot from X: to F: then that has nothing to do with the backup of the DOORS data itself. That is simply a lag in using the system copy. Seems like something you need to work on with your IT team. Are the X and F drives local? |
Re: Doors Database Backup This is an older post but if you're still looking for a solution, I'll reply. We used to also use snapshots because of the database structure. We now use Netbackup with the True Image settings so that we're getting one weekly full backup and four nightly differential (not incremental!!) backups. I have tested these backups extensively and are sure this is working for us. We have approximately 15 Gb database that backs up (on full backup evenings) in less than an hour. |
